The Soling 1 Meter kit is a radio-controlled version of the famous Soling racing yacht. The American Model Yachting Association has designated this model kit as a "One Design Novice Class" radio controlled racing sailboat. It is presently one of the most popular classes in the AMYA, and has the largest number of registered models within its racing class system.
Control is accomplished using a simple, two-channel radio transmitting on ground frequencies of 27 or 75 MHz. The two channels control a set of sails and the rudder.
Stability has been designed into this boat so that even the beginner can enjoy the thrill of R/C sailing from the start. This model will fit inside most compact station wagons, and cars with rear folding seats, completely rigged. If required, the mast and sails can be easily removed for transportation and quickly re-installed at lakeside with no re-adjustments necessary. The keel and rudder are also removable for storage. Mast rake, sail tension and shape are fully adjustable for maximum performance in any wind condition. No special tools are required for assembly.
Construction is quite simple. The hull structure consists of molded plastic parts including the hull, deck, two bulkheads and a transom. A plywood waterproof trunk assembly, located by a factory-precut slot, supports the removable keel within the hull. The rudder is supported by a wood block, also factory located. Rigging attachment points are backed up with wood blocks for strength. The mast and booms are fabricated from Sitka Spruce, the mast being partially shaped. Sails are made from high quality sailcloth and are completely finished and ready for rigging. The kit includes all the hardware required to complete the model, and the assembly manual leads you through assembly, step-by-step. A two-channel radio with a sail winch, lead shot for ballast, glues, and paint are the only things needed to complete the model!

Many of our Club members have built this model. They are always willing to lend a helping hand and to give advice. Their experience and expertise can be invaluable.
We suggest purchasing the finished keel directly from Victor. It is the most difficult part of the model to build correctly. If you want to build your own keel, you can get the lead shot through the Club at a cost of $8.00 Note; Lead shot is not availed at this time, suggest you by a finish keel.
We have found the total cost of the completed boat, including radio electronics, to be around $350.00. With a little care, this boat will last many years. Victor also offers factory built models at higher cost. There may be used boats available from other Club members at reasonable cost.
If you plan on joining our Club, before you order your radio, please inquire about being assigned a non-conflicting frequency.
We sail with the same rules of the road as full sized boats. Any sailing experience you have will apply here.
Eisenhower Park Model Yacht Club meets at 7:30 pm on the first Monday of each month (except National Holidays, then it’s the following Monday) at the recreation building (the white building on the right, in the first parking lot, immediately upon entering the Stewart Ave. entrance to the Park).
